My God, my God, why hast thou meforsaken? why so farArt thou from helping me, and frommy words that roaring are?
All day, my God, to thee I cry,yet am not heard by thee; And in the season of the nightI cannot silent be.
But thou art holy, thou that dostinhabit Isr'el's praise.
Our fathers hop'd in thee, they hop'dand thou didst them release.
When unto thee they sent their cry,to them deliv'rance came:Because they put their trust in thee, they were not put to shame.
But as for me, a worm I am,and as no man am priz'd:Reproach of men I am, and bythe people am despis'd.
All that me see laugh me to scorn;shoot out the lip do they; They nod and shake their heads at me,and, mocking, thus do say,
This man did trust in God, that hewould free him by his might:Let him deliver him, sith hehad in him such delight.
But thou art he out of the wombthat didst me safely take; When I was on my mother's breaststhou me to hope didst make.
And I was cast upon thy care,ev'n from the womb till now;And from my mother's belly, Lord,my God and guide art thou.
Be not far off, for grief is near, and none to help is found.
Bulls many compass me, strong bullsof Bashan me surround.
Their mouths they open'd wide on me,upon me gape did they,Like to a lion raveningand roaring for his prey.
Like water I'm pour'd out, my bonesall out of joint do part:Amidst my bowels, as the wax,so melted is my heart.
My strength is like a potsherd dry'd;my tongue it cleaveth fastUnto my jaws; and to the dustof death thou brought me hast.
For dogs have compass'd me about:the wicked, that did meetIn their assembly, me inclos'd;they pierc'd my hands and feet.
I all my bones may tell; they doupon me look and stare.
Upon my vesture lots they cast, and clothes among them share.
But be not far, O Lord, my strength;haste to give help to me.
From sword my soul, from pow'r of dogsmy darling set thou free.
Out of the roaring lion's mouthdo thou me shield and save:For from the horns of unicornsan ear to me thou gave.
I will shew forth thy name untothose that my brethren are;Amidst the congregationthy praise I will declare.
Praise ye the Lord, who do him fear;him glorify all yeThe seed of Jacob: fear him allthat Isr'el's children be.
For he despis'd not nor abhorr'dth' afflicted's misery;Nor from him hid his face, but heardwhen he to him did cry.
Within the congregation greatmy praise shall be of thee;My vows before them that him fearshall be perform'd by me.
The meek shall eat,and shall be fill'd;they also praise shall giveUnto the Lord that do him seek:your heart shall ever live.
All ends of th' earth remember shall, and turn the Lord unto; All kindreds of the nationsto him shall homage do:
Because the kingdom to the Lorddoth appertain as his;Likewise among the nationsthe Governor he is.
Earth's fat ones eat,and worship shall:all who to dust descendShall bow to him; none of them canhis soul from death defend.
A seed shall service do to him;unto the Lord it shallBe for a generationreckon'd in ages all.
They shall come, and they shall declarehis truth and righteousnessUnto a people yet unborn, and that he hath done this.
